Developed to empower women, Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® or LVR® is  a specialized procedure that addresses three primary symptoms: vaginal relaxation, decreased sexual gratification, and stress urinary incontinence (SUI), all of which are symptoms that clients experience post child birth, although this procedure is not limited only to mothers.

As we age, our bodies change and bear the signs of aging. In particular, the effects of aging are seen and felt for women—especially those who have gone through the process of childbirth. The effects are magnified for those women who have delivered multiple children.

Even more distressing for women is that the physical effects of childbirth on the female body often worsen over time. That means seemingly minor differences in appearance, function, and sexual gratification become more pronounced.

More specifically, pregnancy and childbirth have two (2) major impacts on the female body that are addressed by Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® (LVR®):

Vaginal relaxation and decreased sexual gratification.

Childbirth takes a toll on vaginal muscle tone, strength, and control. The internal and external diameters of the vagina are stretched, and particularly after delivering multiple children, the vagina does not return to its pre-pregnancy state. Many women can feel those physical changes, especially during intercourse.

Each of these factors individually contributes to lessened sexual gratification; however, when combined, there is a significant decrease. All of these elements are responsible for frictional forces, which directly correspond to sexual gratification. Decreased muscle tone can also lead to weaker orgasms.

Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI)

Giving birth is an incredible feat that demonstrates the potential of the female body. After delivering your children, you should not have to suffer from social embarrassment. Yet for many women, that is exactly what happens.

A common result of childbirth (and particularly multiple deliveries) is Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI). Your vaginal and perineal body muscles are strained significantly during childbirth. The effect becomes more pronounced following multiple childbirths. That means many women with two or more children have exaggerated trauma to their vaginal muscles.

In many cases, the vaginal and perineal body muscles are stretched so that they cannot return to their pre-pregnancy state. This is true even with Kegels or other commonly-recommended treatments. The lack of structure and strength in your muscles can lead to stress urinary incontinence.

You may have been told that the loss of urine when coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercising is normal after childbirth. The involuntary loss of urine during these activities is called stress urinary incontinence (SUI).

Relaxation of the top compartment where your bladder and urethra rest causes Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI). When relaxation occurs, those actions noted above (laughing, sneezing, coughing, et al) result in a release of urine. In addition to enhancing sexual gratification, Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® treats SUI as well.

Embarrassing leaks are not a permanent side effect of childbirth. And while your doctor may have suggested Kegels, many patients arrive at our office sharing that Kegels have done nothing to solve their SUI. Dr. Matlock shared the story of a patient named Claudette in his book. She started a Kegel regimen on the advice of her OB/GYN. By 18 months, she was performing 180 sets a day! All without any reliable or discernible improvement.

Dr. David Matlock had met countless women in his practice who were suffering from decreased sexual gratification and SUI. He developed Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® to treat SUI, enhance sexual gratification, and transform lives.

This guide has been developed to help you understand Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® and make the best possible decision for your symptoms and goals. To help you in your journey, this guide includes the following information:

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® (LVR®)

The consequences of childbirth on a woman’s body are immense. Dr. Matlock firmly believes that women have the right to enhanced sexual gratification, so he developed Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® to empower women and give them amazing results.

Women are not meant to suffer from sexual gratification and stress urinary incontinence issues, simply because they have given birth. Vaginal childbirth can be traumatic to the female body, and causes massive changes to the vagina. The vaginal and perineal body muscles are placed under considerable stress during delivery. The vagina stretches considerably to accommodate the birth of your child(ren).

In fact, the tremendous force needed for your muscles to literally “push” your child during delivery takes a toll on those muscles, which you likely never thought about until childbirth. Think of the difference between a set of tight, sculpted abs versus a flabby stomach. The difference is palpable!

The trauma of childbirth on these muscles results in a loss of strength, tone, and control. The diameter of your vagina widens in addition to your introitus. All of these elements combined reduce the frictional forces of sex, which are directly related to sexual gratification.

In addition, many women suffer urinary incontinence issues after childbirth. In these cases, muscle relaxation of the inside and top of the vagina results in the loss of muscle support and therefore with increased abdominal pressure (with laughing, coughing, sneezing, and exercise) urine can be lost. This relaxation causes Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI). Patients with SUI report a loss of urine whenever they laugh, cough, sneeze, or exercise.

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® treats SUI, and can restore the vagina to its pre-pregnancy state. In fact, many patients report looking and feeling like a 16-year-old again!

What other treatments exist to solve these issues?

While Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® is a surgical procedure to enhance sexual gratification and treat urinary incontinence issues caused by childbirth and aging, there are other treatment options available to women today. These treatments include slings, mesh procedures (the complexity of the last two procedures are beyond the scope of this communication) and to a very small extent, some of the non-surgical treatments such as ThermiVa and MonaLisa Touch. These procedures claim to “rejuvenate” the vagina.

These are non-surgical procedures that claim to enhance the labia and vagina. Both ThermiVa and MonaLisa Touch make similar promises and operate under the same theory: stimulating the production of collagen will “restore” the labia and vagina.

During ThermiVa and MonaLisa Touch treatments, a device is inserted into the vagina and heat is applied to attempt to stimulate the body’s natural ability to produce collagen. The manufacturers claim that enhanced collagen will restore the vagina; however, stimulating the production of collagen does nothing to address the actual cause of decreased sexual gratification and SUI.

There may be a temporary tightening feeling at the site of treatment; however, reports suggest this quickly fades. In fact, Dr. Matlock has met countless patients who invested their money and time into these treatments, only to feel NO CHANGE WHATSOEVER.

WARNING: The FDA has released warnings about procedures like ThermiVa and MonaLisa Touch. You can read them and empower yourself through information here.

Who is the right candidate for Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®?

Women who are otherwise healthy, in many cases have delivered multiple children, and are looking to improve sexual gratification and/or to correct Stress Urinary Continence and eliminate the social embarrassment of “leaking” are ideal candidates for Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®.

Who isn’t the right candidate for Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®?

While Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® has enhanced sexual gratification and treated Stress Urinary Incontinence for thousands of women across the globe, not every patient is a candidate for this groundbreaking procedure.

If you suffer from pain during intercourse or other sexual dysfunction, Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® cannot solve your problems. Dr. Matlock developed Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® to empower women and help them take control of their own sexual gratification. As a result, Dr. Matlock will not perform Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® on any patient who is being pressured into the procedure by their significant other. No surgery will reconstruct a faltering relationship.

Patients struggling with emotional issues around sex should seek treatment for those issues before considering Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®, as this procedure will not be able to treat your problems.

Thank you so much for perfecting the surgical art of Vaginal Restoration.

I am so happy with the results.

I met the love of my life 16 years ago, and sex has always been such an important aspect of my life. I had three VERY large babies. While giving birth to my third baby, I had received a third-degree laceration. After having a vaginal repair a few years later by the U.S. Army Ob/Gyn clinic, things still weren’t near being corrected. I still had problems with my bladder, and I still felt way too loose in my vagina. I felt very unhappy and sexually inadequate… I wanted to be as good as before.

Now several years later, thank goodness I found you. I now feel like a real woman again. My bladder is as good as new – and I don’t know how it is related, but I now no longer suffer from urinary tract infections, which I previously was getting almost every other month.  My only regret is… I just wish I knew of you sooner.

Again, thank you for doing what you do. It’s a procedure that is much needed and now we women have a choice. What I used to like asking my male ob/gyns was… How would they feel if they had babies and after the blessed event, they lost at least half of their penis size? I think what many women go through would absolutely be the equivalent!

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®?

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® (LVR®) is a surgical procedure performed by Los Angeles-based Dr. David Matlock, the pioneer of female genital plastic surgery. It repairs the damage caused to your vaginal and perineal muscles following childbirth, resulting in enhanced sexual gratification. Many patients report looking and feeling like a 16-year old again!

Many of Dr. Matlock’s patients suffer from stress urinary incontinence, a small leakage of urine when coughing, laughing, sneezing, or exercising. Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® tightens the muscles on the top, bottom, and outside (perineal body) of the vagina, alleviating the cause of SUI and curing women of this embarrassing condition.

While treating SUI is a powerful component of Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® you may not require rejuvenation of the bladder region. Only patients suffering from stress urinary incontinence or relaxation at the top of the vagina require rejuvenation of the bladder region. During your initial consultation, Dr. Matlock will discuss your specific concerns and symptoms. From your consultation, he will determine exactly the procedure needed.

For more details on this procedure, watch this video from Dr. Matlock.

What happens during Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®?

During Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®, Dr. Matlock uses a laser for cutting and dissecting, and suture material to repair and tighten the muscles of your vagina. Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® tightens the muscles of the top, bottom, and outside (referred to as the perineal body) of the vagina.

The laser used by Dr. Matlock during Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® is a precision-cutting instrument that is gentle on the tissues, minimizes bleeding, bruising, seals lymphatics, and thereby promotes healing. The actual size of the laser is approximately the size of two (2) laptop computers.

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® increases vaginal muscle tone, strength, control, and contractile force. It decreases the internal and external diameters of your vagina, while building up the perineal body. Sexual gratification is directly related to the amount of frictional forces generated. Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® restores your vagina to its pre-pregnancy state to maximize those frictional forces and thereby enhances sexual gratification.

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® is a procedure designed to address the restoration of youth. Dr. Matlock has performed Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® on satisfied patients from all 50 states and over 70 countries who wanted to feel like they are 16 again. When patients approach Dr. Matlock to address their physical concerns with Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®, they quickly realize the life-changing benefits of this groundbreaking procedure. Dr. Matlock is empowering women across the globe to take control of their sexual health!

In addition to improved sexual gratification for patients, a secondary benefit is the creation of a youthful appearance. Women want the introitus to be slit-like. They want the ends of the labia minora and majora to come together in the midline and build up the perineal body. The procedure also enhances sexual gratification for the partner as well.

Of course, we all want to look and feel sexy and desirable. As women age and after giving birth, there is a tremendous impact on the vaginal and perineal body muscles, as well as on vaginal appearance.

Following childbirth, many women suffer from a relaxed or distorted appearance of their vulvar structures. Aesthetic concerns about the vulvar structures, including the labia minora/majora, can be addressed with Dr. Matlock’s Designer Laser Vaginoplasty® techniques, including laser reduction labiaplasty of the labia minora. These can be performed at the same time as Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®

Why is Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® better than other procedures promising “restoration” or “rejuvenation”?

There are several non-surgical procedures promising “restoration” or “rejuvenation” of the vagina. Dr. Matlock has met with countless patients who have succumbed to these promises and unfortunately, have had ZERO benefits. In addition, the FDA has issued a warning against the use of these questionable procedures making empty promises.

Warnings aside, Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® is a transformative, groundbreaking surgical procedure that addresses the cause of vaginal relaxation, decreased sexual gratification and Stress Urinary Incontinence. You simply cannot get the same (or even close) results with alternative treatments. Dr. Matlock developed Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® himself to address the concerns of his patients; he is the pioneer in Female Genital Cosmetic Surgery. He has transformed thousands of lives across the world and has trained hundreds of surgeons to perform these cutting-edge procedures.

Nothing can compare to the life-changing results Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® can provide.

How much does Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® cost?

The specifications of Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® are unique to each patient and her needs. Dr. Matlock and his team will discuss everything with you in detail during and after your initial consultation. Your surgical consultation will then prepare and provide a quote to your specific needs and requests.

What can I expect after Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®?

Dr. Matlock developed Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® after identifying the need for a better solution to help millions of women across the globe suffering from decreased sexual gratification and Stress Urinary Incontinence caused by childbirth and aging.

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® has delivered on its goals.

Dr. Matlock has performed Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® on thousands of happy patients in all 50 states and more than 70 countries across the world.

Dr. Matlock and his team frequently hear from patients who are thrilled with their life-changing Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® results. They are glad that they chose the pioneer in Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®, the doctor who developed and perfected this cutting-edge surgical procedure.

If you are looking to further enhance the appearance of your vagina and vulvar structures, you have the option to combine Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® with other cosmetic procedures. Dr. Matlock will review your personal goals and make specific recommendations to help you achieve your desired results.

I wish I could tell every woman who has ever had even a doubt about fixing whatever is not right vaginally to HAVE THIS SURGERY. It is worth the effort and financial investment.

Thank you for making such a positive difference in my life. Such a shame more physicians don’t discuss this surgery with their female, and even male, patients.  I mean, if my husband had expressed his feelings to his own doctor, and his doctor had recommended that I see you, I would have done it immediately. Oddly, my own female ob/gyn never, ever mentioned this to me. It is as if this is some big, off-limits, secret. I am so grateful I found you.

  2. Arrive at our office early on Friday for your pre-operative appointment. Monday have the surgery performed. Then we can accommodate you on Friday for the post-op appointment.

Pre-operative appointment: meet with the doctor, reconfirm procedure, pay remaining balance, sign consent forms, and prepare you for surgery.

Post-operative appointment: first appointment after surgery. Out of town patients may fly back home that same evening or the following day after first post-operative appointment.

Please be advised that there is a $1,000.00 deposit when scheduling for surgery (to reserve the surgery date). The deposit of $1,000.00 will go towards the balance and it is refundable if for any reason you need to cancel as long as you cancel at least 2 weeks prior to the surgical date.

The full payment will be due on the day of the pre-operative appointment (we only accept cash, cashier’s check, and credit/debit cards). Lab work must be done at least two weeks prior to surgery. We do give patients the option to complete lab work in our office or with their primary care physicians.

Prepare for Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery

Your paperwork should include a full medical history prior to your consultation with Dr. Matlock, so that he can discuss any unique preparation necessary before your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®. Generally, all patients should follow these pre-operative preparation:

  • Stop certain medications and/or supplements. Discontinue using Aspirin (including medications that contain Aspirin), Ibuprofen (Advil), Naproxen (Aleve) and other NSAIDs. Also discontinue taking St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E and other supplements (Dr. Matlock and/or your surgical consultant will review these specifics with you prior to your procedure). These medications and supplements act as blood thinners, and could cause excessive bruising, bleeding or other complications. We will also give you a complete list of medications and herbal supplements to avoid prior to your procedure.
  • Stop smoking. Patients will need to stop smoking for at least two (2) weeks prior and at least one (1) week after surgery. Nicotine can impair circulation and impede healing.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol. Do not drink alcohol in excess for two (2) weeks before your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure, and for one (1) week after surgery. Excessive alcohol consumption before and after surgery has been shown to weaken the immune system and slow down your recovery.
  • Skip food or drink. We ask that you do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery.

You provided Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® Surgery for me. I am reporting great results from my surgery as follows:

  • My urinary incontinence problem is solved.
  • My bowel function is great, it feels normal unlike previously.
  • My perineal body is now strong and supple.
  • My vagina is definitely tighter and working.

Thank you, and my thanks to your staff, for the surgery and for the great aftermath. You are a wonderful surgeon.

Day of Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery?

Dr. Matlock performs Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® on an outpatient basis at his state-of-the-art, state-license and medicare-certified 5,000 square feet surgical center adjacent to his office in Los Angeles. You’ll be asked to arrive for admission at least one (1) hour prior to your surgery.

You will need a responsible adult to stay with you after surgery, and for the first 24 hours after your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure. If you are coming from another state or country, or you do not have someone who can join you on the day of and following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery, we can refer you to a private duty nurse or with information regarding an aftercare facility to provide you with the necessary care and observation after surgery.

Accommodations at an aftercare facility include hotel accommodations, pick up and transportation from the surgery center following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure (with a nurse to monitor your care), 24-hour nursing care, three (3) meals a day, and a driver to take you to our office for your post-operative follow-up appointments. Please note, if you choose to hire a private nurse or stay at an aftercare facility, the cost is not included in the price of your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure.

Admission / Pre-Op

While you are being admitted into the surgical center, you will be required, among other things, to sign consent forms that allow Dr. Matlock to proceed with your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure. Please note, you are not required to bring your prescription medications with you to the surgical center.

Once you have completed your paperwork, you will be admitted into the recovery room. While here, the recovery room nurse will take your vitals, have you take a pregnancy test (which is a simple urine test), and start your IV.

Your anesthesiologist will come before surgery to ask you some questions and answer any questions or concerns you may have about anesthesia and how it may affect you after the procedure. One day prior to your surgery, your anesthesiologist will call you to discuss what type of anesthesia you prefer. This is a highly personal decision made on a patient-to-patient basis. A vast majority of patients usually choose to go under General Anesthesia or Twilight Anesthesia.

Meeting with Dr. Matlock

Dr. Matlock is here for you the day of your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure! Dr. Matlock will meet with you before your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure to answer any last-minute questions. If you are also having liposuction today, Dr. Matlock will mark treatment areas as appropriate.

Moving into the operating room

After you have completed admission protocol, the nurse has completed your pre-operative testing and vitals, and you have met with Dr. Matlock and your anesthesiologist, a nurse will take you into the operating room.

Dr. Matlock will be at your side explaining everything that is going on during your anesthesia induction.

Your anesthesiologist will administer your anesthesia before the procedure begins, and you will receive a pudendal block, which numbs your vaginal area for 18 to 24 hours after surgery. This will allow you to be pain-free in the first day after surgery.

During your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery, Dr. Matlock will use a laser to cut, dissect, and to suture material to tighten your vaginal muscles. If you are suffering from stress urinary incontinence, Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® tightens the muscles on the top, bottom, and outside (perineal body) of the vagina.

The Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure takes approximately one (1) hour or less to complete. If you are also being treated for Stress Urinary Incontinence, or if you are having other procedures, the total time in surgery will vary considerably.

Immediately after Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery

Immediately following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery, you will be taken to the recovery room. While in the recovery room, you will be monitored by nurses for two (2) hours. Once you are awake and coherent, family, friends, or a responsible person picking you up from surgery can visit with you.

After your two hours in the recovery room, you will likely be cleared to go home or to an aftercare facility. In that instance, a nurse from the aftercare facility will come to the surgery center to pick you up.

Dr. Matlock performed my Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® with SUI, and it was the most amazing, life-changing thing that has ever happened to me. After four kids, my sex life stopped being as fun as it use to be, and I had a hard time climaxing because I couldn’t feel my partner. Things got so bad in my relationship, that my husband and I separated for a while. I was depressed and angry all the time.

I started doing research online about vaginal relaxation and urine leakage and read that Dr. Matlock was the pioneer who developed these wonderful procedures. I even had the courage to finally speak to my sister and told her what was going on with my marriage. I asked her to come with me to see Dr. Matlock for the consultation when I heard more about Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® and the genius behind this surgery, Dr. Matlock.

It seemed that my sister had also kept this secret from me, and had gone in to see Dr. Matlock for the exact same procedure! She had such an amazing experience from the initial consultation, throughout her surgery, and the great care after, not just by Dr. Matlock but by his staff who is always there.

I finally went in for my consultation with Dr. Matlock and he immediately made me feel comfortable by answering all my questions and giving me assurance that I was a candidate for Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®. He explained what I was going to achieve by undergoing this procedure, which was my sex life! I was very excited to hear that he was able to make me as tight as a 16-year-old!  I was of course over the moon, I never thought that a surgery like this EVER existed and Dr. Matlock made it possible for me.

– I.F.

Recovery and post-operative care should I expect from Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®

You will be given a prudential block before surgery, which will completely eliminate pain for 18 to 24 hours following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure. After your block wears off, pain is primarily located in the perineum (the area outside of your vagina and above the anus).

The day after your procedure, you will likely feel pressure due to the vaginal packing applied after Dr. Matlock completed your Laser Vagional Rejuvenation® surgery. You will be advised to remove the packaging 24 hours after your surgery, which will alleviate the pressure. The nurse will provide you with full instructions following your surgery. If you are staying at an aftercare facility, a nurse will remove the packing.

The type of pain you may feel is consistent with pain noted after an episiotomy or perineal body tear following childbirth. You will receive a narcotic prescription (Percocet) as well as a lidocaine rectal suppository to help you manage postoperative pain. Dr. Matlock’s patients have found this combination of medications sufficient to control any discomfort they have following the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure.

You should apply ice to the perineum and vulvar areas intermittently for the first 48 hours after surgery (while awake) to minimize swelling. Follow a pattern of 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off during those 48 hours to maximize relief.

If you have had Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® with treatment for Stress Urinary Incontinence, you will have a urinary catheter for four (4) days following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery. The catheter attaches to a small leg bag that can be worn under a dress, skirt, or within the pants. You will need to change this bag regularly until it is removed during a post-op appointment. Instructions will be provided for changing the bag before you leave the surgical center.

Some Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® patients have reported discomfort from the catheter before it was removed. They normally describe discomfort (pressure) in the perineum or anus area due to hemorrhoids, which can flare up during surgery. A lidocaine suppository can be purchased to relieve this discomfort.

Follow-up appointments

Due to the fact that 46% of our patients are out of state or international, the follow-up schedule for your surgery is designed to fit everyone’s needs, and our time-tested systems work.

You will require a total of three (3) post-operative appointments following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery, along the following estimated timeline:

First post-op appointment: 2 to 4 days after surgery

Second post-op appointment: 2 to 3 weeks after surgery (Depending on how you are healing)

Third post-op appointment: 2 to 3 weeks following your second appointment (Depending on how you are healing)

Recovery and healing

Specific recovery varies depending on each unique patient and her circumstances. Patients report no pain for the first 18 to 24 hours (due to the pudendal nerve block) after which they note pain in the perineum. All patients state that discomfort is controlled with the pain medication. By 7 to 9 days, the discomfort is markedly diminished.

The vast majority of patients are completely healed at six (6) weeks post surgery. During your recovery period, do not engage in sexual activity or exercise (including but not limited to yoga, spinning, cycling, Pilates, running, weightlifting, etc).

Most patients are able to return to work in one (1) week. If your job is more physically demanding, you may require more time off of work to recover. During your consultation and post-op appointments, be sure to discuss any concerns about work and healing with Dr. Matlock so that he can advise you appropriately.

I would like to thank you, Dr. Matlock, and all the girls who work for you! I couldn’t be happier with the results from my surgery. From the very first phone call I made until my last visit, everybody was so helpful and sweet! You truly have a great business running and I will be sending many women your way.

As with Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®, many of Dr. Matlock’s life-changing procedures have been developed in response to the feedback and requests of his patients. While many women are subjected to doctors who push aside their sexual concerns, choosing to uphold conservative outlooks, Dr. Matlock and his team believe women are entitled to as much sexual excitement and satisfaction as they desire.

FAQ

Why Do Clients Choose LVR® Procedures?

The consequences of childbirth on a woman’s body can take a toll, and Dr. Matlock believes that women have the right to enhanced sexual gratification.

Childbirth can be traumatic for the vaginal area since the vaginal and perineal muscles are stretched to accommodate childbirth and are under considerable stress during delivery. After childbirth, clients can experience loss of strength, tone, and control of these muscles. Additionally, they might experience Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI), which can be embarrassing.

All these reasons led Dr. Matlock to develop this groundbreaking procedure to restore the vagina to its pre-pregnancy state. The result? Clients regain confidence, experience gratifying sex, and have a higher quality of life!

What is vaginal relaxation?

Childbirth takes a toll on vaginal muscle tone, strength, and control. The internal and external diameters of the vagina are stretched, and particularly after delivering multiple children, the vagina does not return to its pre-pregnancy state. Many women can feel those physical changes, especially during intercourse.

How do i know if i am tight enough down there, especially after childbirth?

The effects of aging are seen and felt for women, especially those who have gone through the process of childbirth. The effects are magnified for those women who have delivered multiple children.

Even more distressing for women is that the physical effects of childbirth on the female body often worsen over time. That means seemingly minor differences in appearance, function, and sexual gratification become more pronounced.

Pregnancy and childbirth have two major impacts on the female body that are addressed by Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® (LVR®):

1. Vaginal relaxation and decreased sexual gratification.

2. Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI)

How do I prepare for LVR® surgery?

Your paperwork should include a full medical history prior to your consultation with Dr. Matlock, so that he can discuss any unique preparation necessary before your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®. Generally, all patients should follow these pre-operative preparation:

Stop certain medications and/or supplements
Discontinue using Aspirin (including medications that contain Aspirin), Ibuprofen (Advil), Naproxen (Aleve) and other NSAIDs. Also discontinue taking St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E and other supplements (Dr. Matlock and/or your surgical consultant will review these specifics with you prior to your procedure). These medications and supplements act as blood thinners, and could cause excessive bruising, bleeding or other complications. We will also give you a complete list of medications and herbal supplements to avoid prior to your procedure.

Stop smoking
Patients will need to stop smoking for at least two weeks prior to surgery, and at least one week post-surgery. Nicotine can impair circulation and impede healing.

Avoid excessive alcohol
Do not drink alcohol in excess during the two weeks before your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure, and for one week after surgery. Excessive alcohol consumption before and after surgery has been shown to weaken the immune system and slow down your recovery.

Skip food or drink
We ask that you do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your scheduled surgery.

What happens the day of surgery?

Dr. Matlock performs Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® on an outpatient basis in his state-of-the-art, state-licensed and medicare-certified surgical center adjacent to his office in Los Angeles. You’ll be asked to arrive for admission at least one hour prior to your surgery.

You will need a responsible adult to stay with you post-surgery, and for the first 24 hours after your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure.

If you are coming from another state or country, or if you do not have someone that can join you on the day of your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery, we can refer you to a private duty nurse or give you information regarding aftercare facilities that can provide you with the necessary care and observation after surgery.

Moving into the operating room

After you have completed admission protocol, and the nurse has completed your pre-operative testing and vitals, you will meet with Dr. Matlock and your anesthesiologist. Then a nurse will take you into the operating room.
Dr. Matlock will be at your side explaining everything during your anesthesia induction.

Your anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia before the procedure begins, and you will receive a pudendal block, which numbs your vaginal area for 18 to 24 hours after surgery. This will allow you to be pain-free in the first day after surgery.

During your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery, Dr. Matlock will use a laser to perform the surgery, and use suture material to tighten your vaginal muscles. The Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure takes approximately one hour or less to complete.

If you are being treated for Stress Urinary Incontinence, or if you are combining other procedures, the total time in surgery will vary.

Immediately after Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery

Immediately following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery, you will be taken to the recovery room. While in the recovery room, you will be monitored by nurses for two hours. Once you are awake and coherent, family, friends, or a responsible person picking you up from surgery can visit with you.

After two hours in the recovery room, you will likely be cleared to go home or to an aftercare facility. In that instance, a nurse from the aftercare facility will come to the surgery center to pick you up.

How DO I prepare for recovery post-op?

You will be given a prudential block before surgery, which will completely eliminate pain for 18 to 24 hours following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure. After your block wears off, pain is primarily located in the perineum (the area outside of your vagina and above the anus).

The day after your procedure, you will likely feel pressure due to the vaginal packing that is applied after Dr. Matlock completes your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery. You will be advised to remove the packaging 24 hours after surgery to alleviate pressure. The nurse will provide you with full instructions following your surgery. If you are staying at an aftercare facility, a nurse will remove the packing.

The type of pain you may feel is consistent with pain noted after an episiotomy or perineal body tear following childbirth. You will receive a prescription as well as a lidocaine rectal suppository to help you manage post-operative pain.

We will provide instructions on how to change the bag before you leave the surgical center after surgery.

Some Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® patients have reported discomfort from the catheter before it was removed. Some patients have described discomfort (pressure) in the perineum or anus area due to hemorrhoids, which can flare up during surgery. A lidocaine suppository can be purchased to relieve this discomfort.

WHAT DOES long-term recovery and healing LOOK LIKE?

Post-Op Appointments:

If you are an out-of-state or traveling internationally, we will create a follow-up schedule to fit your needs.

You will require a total of three post-operative appointments following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery:

First post-op appointment: 2 to 4 days after surgery
Second post-op appointment: 2 to 3 weeks after surgery (depending on how you are healing)
Third post-op appointment: 2 to 3 weeks following your second appointment (depending on how you are healing)
Recovery and Healing

Each patient will experience recovery and healing based on their unique circumstances. Some patients report no pain for the first 18 to 24 hours (due to the pudendal nerve block), after which they note pain in the perineum. All patients state that pain medication aids with any discomfort they experience. Within 7 to 9 days, the discomfort diminishes significantly.
The vast majority of patients are completely healed within 6 weeks post-surgery. During the six-week recovery period, do not engage in sexual activity or exercise (including but not limited to yoga, spinning, cycling, pilates, running, weightlifting, etc).

Most patients can return to work within one week. If your job is more physically demanding, you may require more time off to recover. During your consultation and post-op appointments, please discuss any concerns about work and healing with Dr. Matlock so that he can advise you appropriately.
