All about Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® (LVR®)

Why do clients choose Lvr® procedures?

The consequences of childbirth on a woman’s body can take a toll, and Dr. Matlock believes that women have the right to enhanced sexual gratification.

Childbirth can be traumatic for the vaginal area since the vaginal and perineal muscles are stretched to accommodate childbirth and are under considerable stress during delivery. After childbirth, clients can experience loss of strength, tone, and control of these muscles. Additionally, they might experience Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI), which can be embarrassing.

All these reasons led Dr. Matlock to develop this groundbreaking procedure to restore the vagina to its pre-pregnancy state. The result? Clients regain confidence, experience gratifying sex, and have a higher quality of life!

LASER VAGINAL REJUVENATION®: IN DEPTH

Pre & Post-Op Prep

The first step toward a life with enhanced sexual gratification and treated SUI is to schedule your consultation with Dr. Matlock.

We conduct our virtual consultation with clients around the world from our office in Los Angeles. We meet with clients over the phone, Zoom, FaceTime, etc. Dr. Matlock offers significant flexibility to ensure patients who wish to experience the life-changing benefits of Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® have that opportunity.

During your consultation with Dr. Matlock, you can expect to:

Discuss your body goals and aspirations.
Prior to your initial consultation, think about the goals you’d like to achieve. What specific concerns do you have with your body and why? Be prepared to discuss the details of your medical history, so that Dr. Matlock can prepare a customized treatment plan just for you. This also allows Dr. Matlock to maximize your one-on-one time during the consultation.

A list of questions you have about LVR® or other cosmetic procedures that Dr. Matlock offers.
We will be sure to set aside plenty of time so you can ask Dr. Matlock all of your questions. We encourage you to share your goals openly and ask all questions without inhibition.

Discuss your medical history.
The consultation will be inclusive, cover your medical problems, the reasons why you are seeking a consultation, and a physical examination if you are local. If this is a virtual consultation, we will ask you to share these details so Dr. Matlock can review them prior to speaking with you.

Discuss pricing and scheduling information.
During the consultation, we will discuss pricing and coordinate scheduling when you are interested in moving forward in undergoing this procedure. We will also create a comprehensive treatment plan so you get the best results!

We understand the travel and scheduling limitations for our patient that are either out-of-state or traveling from another country. We make sure to prioritize scheduling flexibility for traveling patients so that they can make arrangements (including hotels, flights, friends or family members to accompany them, hiring a private duty nurse if traveling alone, or making arrangements at an aftercare facility, if necessary).

Dr. Matlock’s concierge team can assist you with arrangements for sourcing and scheduling private nurses and/or aftercare facilities if needed.

If you are ready to move forward immediately after your consultation, we do everything possible to accommodate your desired date(s). Please be advised, Dr. Matlock performs surgeries on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

We recommend two of the following options:

Option 1*

Please be advised that there is a $1,000 deposit when scheduling surgery to reserve the surgery date. This deposit is applied towards the balance, and is refundable if the patient needs to cancel, as long as they provide two-week notice prior to their scheduled surgery date.

Payment for the entire procedure is due on the day of the pre-operative appointment (we only accept cash, cashier’s check, and credit/debit cards).

Your paperwork should include a full medical history prior to your consultation with Dr. Matlock, so that he can discuss any unique preparation necessary before your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®. Generally, all patients should follow these pre-operative preparation:

Stop certain medications and/or supplements
Discontinue using Aspirin (including medications that contain Aspirin), Ibuprofen (Advil), Naproxen (Aleve) and other NSAIDs. Also discontinue taking St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E and other supplements (Dr. Matlock and/or your surgical consultant will review these specifics with you prior to your procedure). These medications and supplements act as blood thinners, and could cause excessive bruising, bleeding or other complications. We will also give you a complete list of medications and herbal supplements to avoid prior to your procedure.

Stop smoking
Patients will need to stop smoking for at least two weeks prior to surgery, and at least one week post-surgery. Nicotine can impair circulation and impede healing.

Avoid excessive alcohol
Do not drink alcohol in excess during the two weeks before your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure, and for one week after surgery. Excessive alcohol consumption before and after surgery has been shown to weaken the immune system and slow down your recovery.

Skip food or drink
We ask that you do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your scheduled surgery.

Dr. Matlock performs Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® on an outpatient basis in his state-of-the-art, state-licensed and medicare-certified surgical center adjacent to his office in Los Angeles. You’ll be asked to arrive for admission at least one hour prior to your surgery.

You will need a responsible adult to stay with you post-surgery, and for the first 24 hours after your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure.

If you are coming from another state or country, or if you do not have someone that can join you on the day of your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery, we can refer you to a private duty nurse or give you information regarding aftercare facilities that can provide you with the necessary care and observation after surgery.

Accommodations at an aftercare facility include hotel accommodations, pick up and transportation from the surgery center following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure (with a nurse to monitor your care), 24-hour nursing care, three (3) meals a day, and a driver to take you to our office for your post-operative follow-up appointments.

Please note, if you choose to hire a private nurse or stay at an aftercare facility, the cost is not included in the price of your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure.

Moving into the operating room
After you have completed admission protocol, and the nurse has completed your pre-operative testing and vitals, you will meet with Dr. Matlock and your anesthesiologist. Then a nurse will take you into the operating room.

Dr. Matlock will be at your side explaining everything during your anesthesia induction.

Your anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia before the procedure begins, and you will receive a pudendal block, which numbs your vaginal area for 18 to 24 hours after surgery. This will allow you to be pain-free in the first day after surgery.

During your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery, Dr. Matlock will use a laser to perform the surgery, and use suture material to tighten your vaginal muscles. The Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure takes approximately one hour or less to complete.

If you are being treated for Stress Urinary Incontinence, or if you are combining other procedures, the total time in surgery will vary.

Immediately after Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery
Immediately following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery, you will be taken to the recovery room. While in the recovery room, you will be monitored by nurses for two hours. Once you are awake and coherent, family, friends, or a responsible person picking you up from surgery can visit with you.

After two hours in the recovery room, you will likely be cleared to go home or to an aftercare facility. In that instance, a nurse from the aftercare facility will come to the surgery center to pick you up.

You will be given a prudential block before surgery, which will completely eliminate pain for 18 to 24 hours following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure. After your block wears off, pain is primarily located in the perineum (the area outside of your vagina and above the anus).

The day after your procedure, you will likely feel pressure due to the vaginal packing that is applied after Dr. Matlock completes your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery. You will be advised to remove the packaging 24 hours after surgery to alleviate pressure. The nurse will provide you with full instructions following your surgery. If you are staying at an aftercare facility, a nurse will remove the packing.

The type of pain you may feel is consistent with pain noted after an episiotomy or perineal body tear following childbirth. You will receive a prescription as well as a lidocaine rectal suppository to help you manage post-operative pain. Dr. Matlock’s patients have found this combination of medications sufficient to control any discomfort they have following the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® procedure.

You should apply ice to the perineum and vulvar areas intermittently for the first 48 hours after surgery (while awake) to minimize swelling. Follow a pattern of 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off during those 48 hours to maximize relief.

If you have had Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® with treatment for Stress Urinary Incontinence, you will have a urinary catheter for four (4) days following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery. The catheter attaches to a small leg bag that can be worn under a dress, skirt, or within the pants. You will need to change this bag regularly until it is removed during a post-op appointment. We will provide instructions on how to change the bag before you leave the surgical center after surgery.

Some Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® patients have reported discomfort from the catheter before it was removed. Some patients have described discomfort (pressure) in the perineum or anus area due to hemorrhoids, which can flare up during surgery. A lidocaine suppository can be purchased to relieve this discomfort.

Post-Op Appointments:
If you are an out-of-state or traveling internationally, we will create a follow-up schedule to fit your needs.

You will require a total of three post-operative appointments following your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® surgery:
First post-op appointment: 2 to 4 days after surgery
Second post-op appointment: 2 to 3 weeks after surgery (depending on how you are healing)
Third post-op appointment: 2 to 3 weeks following your second appointment (depending on how you are healing)

Recovery and Healing
Each patient will experience recovery and healing based on their unique circumstances. Some patients report no pain for the first 18 to 24 hours (due to the pudendal nerve block), after which they note pain in the perineum. All patients state that pain medication aids with any discomfort they experience. Within 7 to 9 days, the discomfort diminishes significantly.

The vast majority of patients are completely healed within 6 weeks post-surgery. During the six-week recovery period, do not engage in sexual activity or exercise (including but not limited to yoga, spinning, cycling, pilates, running, weightlifting, etc).

Most patients can return to work within one week. If your job is more physically demanding, you may require more time off to recover. During your consultation and post-op appointments, please discuss any concerns about work and healing with Dr. Matlock so that he can advise you appropriately.
