What Every Woman Deserves to Know, All in One Place
Female Genital Cosmetic Surgery is a collection of different procedures that elevate the aesthetic appearance and function of the intimate region.
As a specialty within aesthetic medicine, Female Genital Cosmetic Surgery has grown substantially in recent years. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has documented a consistent increase in labiaplasty procedures year after year, and the number of people searching online for intimate procedures has grown. Even in my own practice, I have noticed the demand has never been greater.
Despite the statistics, some women are not aware that this is an option for them. Society still stigmatizes intimate procedures. In reality, countless women around the world have sought out these solutions to live more freely and comfortably.
I, Dr. David Matlock, am a cosmetic surgeon and specialist in Female Genital Cosmetic Surgery. I pioneered proprietary techniques like Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®, Designer Laser Vaginoplasty®, and more. With these unique approaches, I have helped many women from all 50 states and 70 different countries restore their wellness and femininity.
This guide aims to provide you with the helpful, direct information you deserve. Read on to learn more about your options.
Why Women Seek Female Genital Cosmetic Surgery — And Why Every Reason Is Valid
One of the primary things I try to communicate to my parents is that all reasons for undergoing Female Genital Cosmetic Surgery are legitimate and deserving of a solution. Several of the most common reasons why women seek out intimate procedures include:
- Physical Discomfort: Enlarged or asymmetrical tissue can lead to pain or irritation during more physically demanding or athletic activities and when wearing tighter-fitting clothing.
- Intimate Concerns: The changes affecting the vagina over time can detract from one’s physical sensations and sense of confidence in the bedroom.
- Post-Childbirth Effects: The lasting effects of pregnancy can leave stretched tissue and damaged tissue—both of which can make one feel uncomfortable in their own skin.
- Post-Weight Loss Shifts: GLP-1-induced weight loss can lead to effects such as a deflated appearance in the outer vaginal lips, sagging pubic skin, and weakened muscular support.
- Aesthetic Concerns: While it is natural to have asymmetrical labia, excess tissue, or a dissatisfying appearance, these concerns can lead to self-consciousness.
- Age-Related Changes: Over time, the natural effects of aging, menopause, and hormone imbalance can affect the appearance, tone, and function of the intimate area.
Laser Reduction Labiaplasty
Laser Reduction Labiaplasty (LRL) is a procedure where I carefully reshape the inner vaginal lips, or labia minora, using advanced laser technology. It is natural for women to have enlarged, asymmetrical, or protuberant tissue due to genetics, hormonal shifts, age-related changes, or childbirth. However, this tissue can also cause lasting discomfort.
During this procedure, I use laser technology—the techniques I use cannot be matched by a scalpel. As I remove excess tissue, the laser coagulates the blood vessels. This significantly reduces bleeding during the procedure and shortens overall recovery time. This technique produces virtually no scarring, and the area heals more rapidly.
Most of my patients who have undergone LRL return to light activity within one week and see refined results after about six weeks. Results are a greater sense of physical comfort, a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, and boost in self-confidence.
Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® (LVR®)
Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® (LVR®) can restore vaginal muscle tone, strength, and control. It rebuilds the vaginal canal and perineal body, the muscular structure that supports your urogenital system and plays a significant role in continence. (1) It can effectively address post-pregnancy concerns and eliminate stress urinary incontinence, and is the gold standard treatment in Female Genital Cosmetic Surgery for these concerns.
During the procedure, I use a precision laser that will minimize bleeding, prevent unnecessary tissue damage, and stimulate the production of new collagen. The laser removes excess tissue, tightens the vaginal canal, and rebuilds the perineal body—achieving long-lasting and profound changes.
Designer Laser Vaginoplasty® (DLV®)
Designer Laser Vaginoplasty® is a comprehensive solution for restoring both the appearance and comfort of your vaginal region. This procedure is a customized surgical plan that can address both functional and aesthetic concerns regarding the labia minora, labia majora, perineum, or clitoral hood. It uses a combination of techniques, including tissue reshaping, reduction, tightening, and more, to address the various concerns affecting each of your intimate structures.
Because this procedure is fully tailored to your specific anatomy and needs, no two DLV® procedures are the same. I design each treatment after a thorough and personal consultation, ensuring that each patient receives exactly what they want.
This procedure is more than just surgery—it’s a form of artistry guided by over three decades of knowledge and experience.
Labia Majora Augmentation
Over time, the naturally puffy, cushioned tissue of the intimate region can lose its volume and take on a misshapen or deflated appearance that leaves patients feeling less than confident. To address this, I can perform labia majora augmentation.
Labia majora augmentation can restore the natural shape and volume of the outer vaginal lips. I can either transfer your body’s own fat from another region to your labia using liposuction techniques or use a structural biological filler composed of donor-derived adipose material. Both of these approaches result in soft, seamless, natural-looking, and feeling results that you can enjoy for years to come.
Mons Pubis Reduction and Lift
The mons pubis is the protruding area located above your pubic region. The effects of weight fluctuations or pregnancy can cause this area to bulge or sag, creating cosmetic issues even under clothing.
I can perform a mons pubis reduction and lift by using precision liposuction. This will restore the natural contours of this area by addressing fat causing bulging or asymmetry. I often combine this with Renuvion J-Plasma, a skin-tightening treatment that contracts the skin and stimulates collagen production.
Clitoral Hood Reduction
The clitoral hood is the skin that covers the structure of the clitoris. While having a clitoral hood with more skin or asymmetrical tissue is natural, it can create aesthetic concerns.
I can perform a clitoral hood reduction by using the precision laser to reshape your clitoral hood and remove any excess tissue.
Perineoplasty
A perineoplasty is a procedure that can restore the perineum, or the muscular structure found between your vaginal opening and rectum. Damage to this area is common during pregnancy and affects approximately 9 out of 10 women. (2) I can surgically reconstruct and tighten the tissues and muscles of the area to restore its appearance, strength, and functionality.
I recommend pairing this procedure with Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® to achieve pre-pregnancy tightness.
The Laser Advantage — Why Technology Changes Everything
What sets me apart from other doctors is my exclusive use of laser technology in place of more conventional surgical tools.
The use of this technology also allows me to produce more refined results without any noticeable scarring. It also seals the blood vessels during the procedure to minimize bleeding.
I have been honing my laser surgery skills for far longer than most practices have had it available. With over 30 years of experience and over 50,000 performed procedures, you can rest assured that you are in the care of a doctor who truly knows what they are doing.
