About Silicone Removal from the Buttocks

Silicone removal from the buttocks is an individualized procedure that removes illegal or problematic silicone injections from your buttocks. When lay people (illegal injectors) administer illegal silicone into the buttocks, many patients develop complications ranging from minor to serious. These often include swelling, inflammation, filler migration, the development of hard nodules, and more. (2) Dr. Matlock performs this procedure to eliminate as much silicone from your buttocks as possible, allowing you to take back control of your health, appearance, and overall quality of life.

Preparation

Once you decide to proceed with your silicone removal, Dr. Matlock will provide you with a set of detailed pre-operative instructions to help you prepare. He may direct you to:

  • Stop using blood-thinning medications and supplements.
  • Pre-arrange transportation to and from your procedure.
  • Prepare to take time away from your career and other commitments.
  • Cease any nicotine or alcohol consumption in the weeks before your procedure and throughout your recovery.
  • Fill any prescriptions ahead of time.
  • Undergo any necessary lab tests or imaging.

These instructions may vary depending on the details of your surgical plan, but you must follow each one to ensure a successful procedure and smooth recovery.

Procedure

The exact details of your procedure will vary depending on what techniques Dr. Matlock will be using. Regardless of your surgical plan, your procedure will begin with the cleansing of your skin and the administration of general anesthesia to ensure a comfortable experience. After this stage, Dr. Matlock will begin your corrections.

Most patients require some degree of excision to remove the silicone from their buttocks. When removing silicone, Dr. Matlock will begin by placing incisions around the buttocks to access your underlying tissues and muscles. He will then carefully extract the silicone (which is mixed in with the fat) from your buttocks, as well as any scarred, infected, or damaged tissues. In most cases, he will send these tissues to a pathology lab, which will give you deeper insight into your health.

Dr. Matlock uses Vaser Assisted liposuction to help remove silicone deposits from harder-to-reach places. This involves placing a small incision in the bottom crease underneath the buttocks that is less than a quarter inch. The Vaser is used to help break up the silicone/fat. He will then use a power-assisted liposuction unit to meticulously remove the product/fat. Once Dr. Matlock removes as much of the silicone as possible, he will carefully close each incision. He and his team will then transport you to our recovery suite to rest until you are ready to return home.

Recovery

After a silicone removal from the buttocks, it is common to experience some swelling, tenderness, and bruising around the treated areas. These effects will gradually dissipate, but you may also mitigate them using prescribed medications and plenty of rest. After approximately 1-2 weeks, you will be able to return to light activities, desk work, and other non-strenuous tasks. However, you will need to continue avoiding any physical or demanding activities until Dr. Matlock clears you to return.

The exact details and timeline of your recovery will vary depending on the severity of your case. During your consultation, Dr. Matlock will provide detailed post-operative instructions to help you manage any side effects, navigate your activity restrictions, and care for your healing buttocks. If any questions or complications arise as you recover, we encourage you to contact us for any guidance or support you may need.

Results

The results of your procedure will vary depending on how much silicone Dr. Matlock removes and how the silicone affected your natural tissues.

You will be able to rest easy knowing that Dr. Matlock and his team can address and prevent any further complications from occurring. You may experience improvements in your daily comfort and functionality, and you may also enjoy more refined and even contours after addressing any asymmetry or irregularities that your previous injections may have caused.

Injecting these substances into the body can lead to significant, long-term consequences, making a silicone removal procedure necessary to ensure your health and well-being.

Can Dr. Matlock remove all the silicone from the buttocks?

Dr. Matlock will eliminate as much silicone as possible, but it may not be possible to remove it entirely. Q. What is a silicone granuloma? A silicone granuloma is a hard lump that may develop in your body as an inflammatory reaction to silicone. This condition often results in swelling and discomfort and requires a silicone removal procedure to address it.

Will my buttocks still appear normal after my silicone removal?

Dr. Matlock takes great care in ensuring that each patient’s final results appear balanced with their natural frame and figure. If needed, Dr. Matlock may combine your silicone removal procedure with a reconstructive or skin-tightening treatment to elevate the definition and contours of your buttocks.

Will I need to stop sitting after my silicone removal from the buttocks?

Dr. Matlock may direct you to avoid sitting or placing pressure on your buttocks during the initial phase of your recovery. After several weeks, he may direct you to start using specialized cushions to return to sitting.
