Laser Reduction Labiaplasty (LRL) of the Labia Majora via Extension of the Perineoplasty is a common labia majora reduction procedure. Many women seek LRL of the Labia Majora via Extension of the Perineoplasty because they want to reduce the sagging and relaxed labia majora and restore a more youthful appearance. Many patients have LRL of the labia majora in combination with the LVR® procedure.

Procedure

Laser Reduction Labiaplasty (LRL) of the Labia Majora via Extension of the Perineoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis. Patients have a choice of their preferred anesthesia (local with IV sedation, twilight, or general). Ninety-eight percent of patients opt for general anesthesia. In addition, a pudendal block is given to provide 18-24 hours postoperative pain control anesthesia.

During LRL of the Labia Majora via Extension of the Perineoplasty a special laser is used to perform the “proprietary” DLV® technique. LRL of the Labia Majora via Extension of the Perineoplasty involves the resection of the excess skin of the lower ends of the labia majora and perineum. The lower ends of the muscles of the labia majora and the perineal body are repaired and tightened with absorbable sutures.

An added benefit of Laser Reduction Labiaplasty (LRL) of the Labia Majora via Extension of the Perineoplasty is tightening of the introitus (entrance of the vagina).

Preparation

Patients will provide a complete medical history and a list of medications, including vitamins and herbs, during the initial consultation.

The following are tips that may help shorten the recovery time and decrease the chances of complications.

  • Discontinue using Aspirin (including medications that contain Aspirin), Ibuprofen, Naprosyn, St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E and other supplements as directed. These act as blood thinners and could cause excessive bruising, bleeding or other complications. We will give you a complete list of medications and herbal supplements to avoid prior to your procedure.
  • Stop smoking for at least two weeks before and one week after surgery, as nicotine can impair circulation and healing.

Post Surgery

You should expect some bruising, swelling, and mild pain after the procedure. Medication will be prescribed to control any pain or discomfort.

Recovery

The recovery process is different for everyone. Most patients are up and about walking the next day. Showers may be resumed on the second day following surgery. Sexual activity and exercise may be resumed in six weeks after surgery.

Results

Complete results can be seen in six weeks.
